Denmark Agrees Anti-Blasphemy Laws Need To Be Repealed Except For Its Own Law

created image with the text No Blasphemy AllowedLast week during the current session of the UN Human Rights Council, when statements were allowed on a special report on Freedom of Religion or Belief, the representative from Denmark agreed with the report that anti-blasphemy laws needed to be repealed but her government elected to leave an anti-blasphemy clause in its penal code. The International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) was not amused.

Humanist Groups Start Project To End Blasphemy Laws Worldwide

On January 30th, the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) and the European Humanist Federation (EHF) announced a new project to help abolish blasphemy laws around the world. In many parts of the world, any criticism of religion can lead to a prison sentence or worse. The End Blasphemy Laws campaign has a lofty goal to reach.

For The Good Of Democracy, Corporations Shouldn’t Have Human Rights

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, decided in the US Supreme Court in 2010, struck down laws that tried to control money given by corporations and other artificial entities in elections. The ruling essentially gave corporations free speech rights. It conferred personhood under the law for corporations. There are currently cases in the courts that could give religious freedom rights to corporations and remove any limits on the amount of money individuals could spend on election campaigns. Giving human rights to corporations or saying that money equals free speech is bad for actual humans. The Move to Amend group is working to change this terrible trend toward Corporate personhood.

If You Plan On Opposing Secular Humanism, Do Your Homework

As you can imagine there are far more negative articles written about it than positive – which is okay. It’s also pretty easy to spot when someone hasn’t really done any research about secular humanism and just repeats false or misleading information. Usually such articles come from religious conservatives like the minister from Iowa Park Texas. I would say, if you plan on opposing secular humanism, at least do your homework.
